Rule proposal: Mandatory pose-outs of roleplay

The rule would be as follows:
A player must pose out as they leave a roleplay, or designate someone to pose them out. By leaving a roleplay without posing out or designating someone to pose you out, you implicitly consent to allow any remaining member of the roleplay to pose you out. The only exception to this rule is if all participants of the roleplay agree to pause and continue roleplay another day. This rule applies to all participants of a roleplay regardless of who started it or is involved with it, and applies to all means of leaving a roleplay, including disconnections (voluntary or otherwise) and idleness of more than 15 minutes.
We are requesting comments on the above proposal. The wizstaff may make some changes based on feedback, but we plan to implement this rule or a rule very much like it within the next few weeks. Thanks!

Sounds good to me.

Re: Rule proposal: Mandatory pose-outs of roleplay

I take issue with other players being able to pose my characters out during an involuntary disconnection. No-one is sufficiently qualified to spoof my characters, so the only way I would agree with this is if the pose-out process was by implicit assumption.

Additionally, the way this is written seems exponentially more heavy-handed than was agreed upon on the MUCK. I thought we were trying to encourage a different paradigm of RP where players live in the world through their characters, not punish them for circumstances beyond their control by creating -additional- circumstances beyond their control.

I think this rule needs re-examining, because at the moment, it seems like it'll do more to stifle RP than encourage it.

Re: Rule proposal: Mandatory pose-outs of roleplay

Hmm... I see your point; I guess what I'm trying to get at is that the RP shouldn't have to end because someone's disconnected or idle, involuntarily or not. An implicit pose out might work, but it still means some coercion, e.g. did you leave? go to sleep? what? Perhaps instead of allowing someone to pose you out, we make a default assumption about what the involuntary disconnect means?

I'm not sure what that assumption should be, though. Maybe if you disconnect or terminally idle, everyone can assume your char remembered some place they needed to be and left? Heck, maybe we can have a list of acceptable pose-out assumptions? I'm open to ideas.

Re: Rule proposal: Mandatory pose-outs of roleplay

I would think that a set of default assumptions should be created and published. Like, for a public or outdoor setting, a person who's idle might be assumed to have dozed off or gotten really busy with something else ICly, depending on the nature of what they were doing ICly before they idled. While people who disconnect suddenly might be skipped for a few rounds, then it's assumed they had to leave for some reason ICly.

To do anything else in the case of a forced pose-out could be detrimental to a person's character. Lastly, I think a person who knows they're gonna be idle, sleeping, etc.. should be able to select an assumption that best suits their character and the duration of their being inactive, and/or pose out.
