The End of the Nimh Mouse Colony

To give the NMC Closure since the RP itself hasn't been making progress, I have written up this journal. I hope it's a sufficient end to an Arc I still hope to actually RP sometime in the future.

Enjoy.

Journal of Samerson Vordmen, Corporal of the Mouse Guard,

It happened. By God it finally happened. They attacked us. Those stupid, damned sewer Staggs attacked us. We lost so many… and we couldn’t do a goddamned thing! The best we –could- do was retreat ourselves behind the door and devise a plan. We all knew what had to be done, there was no other way. We didn’t have the supplies or the manpower to last against a full siege, and we knew the Staggs would just break through the walls and the gate anyway.

So we took the fuel lines that ran into the factories. We severed them, laid every drop of gasoline we could coax from the vats onto the floor. We hoped to God that we were doing the right thing, that we could at least carry who was left out of this nightmare…

Private Junson said that he could start the fire. The poor bastard…I bet he volunteered because he just couldn’t go on. He didn’t even attempt to escape that blaze…he just walked right into it. I don’t think I’m ever going to get that image out of my head…I’ve already had a nightmare about it when we stopped the Caravan a couple of miles outside the city.

That’s what we did, too. Any civilian who was smart enough to head to the emergency tunnels was rounded up. We picked up anything we could carry from the Colony and gathered up any form of container we could. We could hear those damned Staggs scratching at the walls…I could have sworn I heard a couple of them actually –biting- at the metal! These things should all be slaughtered... Nonetheless, at least we got everyone out before we heard the gate breach. After that...nothing but silence. Though, it didn’t last long when we saw that spark. There was plenty of sobbing going on as we watched all we had worked so hard on go up in flames. The smoke would attract humans, we didn’t doubt that, but all they would find would be charred remains. We never existed.

We travelled hours until we were sure we were out of sight of human eyes, then we all settled down in the most remote patch of foliage we could find. Guess we’re going to wait till sunrise before we start moving out again. I hope NIMH doesn’t catch wind of this too soon; we need to be long gone by then.

The Council is of course fine, though this loss definitely put a somber look on all of their faces. We’re going to need to do plenty of work to rebuild ourselves…and we all know our first stop is Thorn Valley. God, we really have a journey ahead of us. Worse, I’m not the only one not getting much sleep; I can still hear sobbing from the civilians…even some of the Guard is looking teary-eyed.

In all of this, I remember this strange…suit I think it was? I have no idea what in was –in- it, if anything was, and frankly I don’t care to dwell on it. Whatever it was vanished during all the commotion when we were packing up…all I know was that it was at least friendly. Hope it made it out okay, though; it took down a good few of those bastards before we retreated inside…

I’ve got to end this entry here, looks like the Council wants to talk to me about something…
