NMC

Here I go again:

This is something sort of set in motion by Simon/Timothy, but since I'm sort of a big part of it, I'm gonna put something out here.

As of just about right now, my character Tod is going to be going back to the Nimh mice colony ahead of the expedition (next day or so, both ICly and for real). Long story, won't go into details, but the punchline is that we're trying to spark some activity at NMC. Anyhow, since the bulk of the NMC mice played right now are in Thorn Valley, I wanted to put out there that for anything further to happen, rp wise, I'm gonna need 'company' if you will, at NMC.

Basically, i'm just wondering who all is/plans on/ or has thought about creating an NMC character, or has one already that they aren't playing much, or is planning on returning with the expedition. I just don't wanna get lonely over there:)

Could have Lancelot, and

Could have Lancelot, and possibly his uncle, Ian-of-the-luck go as diplomats/representatives of the Rat colony. Considering Lancelot is one of the rare few mice raised at the rat colony , he might be good choice to be amoung his own kind for awhile.

Wait, hold on...

You say Lancelot and Ian-of-the-Luck are mice, eh...

Where did they come from? As far as we've established on the MUCK, the only mice present in the colony before contact with the NMC are Ages, Brisby, their descendants, and the New 8 (from which Eugene comes from).

I think you'll have to clarify the story behind Lancelot and Ian a bit more. Until then, the only solution I see would be to retroactively place these two as part of the New 8, seeing as no other experiments were performed.

(The New 8, BTW, where a group of mice than were a "retry" by NIMH to get the experiment right. As far as I know, this is the only accepted post-originals experiment from which new NIMH-altered characters could come from).

Of course, I could be getting this wrong, seeing how late it is right now, but I'd like to hear from you all the same n.n

'New 8'?

Okay, I must be a lot more out of touch than i thought i was, because i've never even heard of the 'new 8' until now. How long has that been around? I'm guessing since like at least a year or so ago, maybe longer, but still, I have no clue.

I'm baaaaack ^.^b

Has passed some time since I left the muck, but as some of you may know I'm getting back my rodents in action, therefore I'm getting as much info as I can about the current situation RP related.
Yet, I'm more than willing to get my chars involved on some of the NMC RPs so, you can count with Patricia and Sarah.
Feel free to drop me a line whenever you want to discuss about it =D

Welcome Back!!

*BEARHUGS Tenken!!*

WELCOME BACK!! Nice to see my favorite parrot made it back (for those of you who don't know, it's a loooong story.) Anyhow, it'll be nice to have some other mice around NMC. Hopefully we can get something good started over there. Thorn Valley seems to be stealing all the good rp, not to mention characters, lately.

Answers and intros

See this is why I should never post when Im tired. Things get mixed up.
Ok. Clarifying. Ian-of-the-luck is a rat, not mouse. He's uncle to Lancelot, Ira, etc.
He's a Wordgatherer(see the new topic- Wordgatherer I put up) His world experience might lend itself to being a sort of impromptu diplomat.

As for Lancelot, here's his backstory as I put to submission to the Wizzes: Its a couple paragraphs.

All that is known is Lancelot was rescued by a sympathetic she-squrriel , her less then willing mate, and a she-rabbit feeding nearby from a group of what they would call 'bad smelling" rats, pausing on the side of a pond/lake. The rats had never been seen in this part of the forest before and apparently from their conversation, their intention was to eat him on the way back from wherever they came from.
Taking the child away and hiding him in the trees until the strange rats gave up and went away was one thing. What to do with it afterward was another. A tiny group of feral animals gathered afterwards to see what had happened and they pondered what to do with it. The mousechild was covered in blood, yet had no obvious wounds. it wore a shirt, and had a strange green "sparkly" with it and it smelled like no other feral mouse they had known.
Suggestions came from "leaving it there in hopes someone would come for it " to "raising it in another family". The she - rabbit told that there was only one type of creature she had know of that had such things and those were the strange rats that now lived in Thorn Valley. She pointed out that she had been up close to the Rats of there and they did not smell nor look or act like those they had rescued the baby mouse from. She reasoned that even though the child was not a rat, such things were known to those rats and they might want him back. It was decided then, that the she-rabbit would take him to thorn valley. Wether this was done out of concern for the child's life or fear of the Thorn valley rats is not known. Perhaps both.

Enter Rita and Ron Penink. The rat couple had tried for years to have kits of their own . Even resorting to the now almost dead custom of taking more than one mate but to no avail. Rita had been present when the she-rabbit brought the young one to the gate of the Colony. She managed reason with the guards and took temp custody of the little one.
Bringing the baby mouse home and cleaning him up with her mate Ronald , they discovered on the back of the amulet looked like a Letter L with a mark in back of it., Inspired by the letter and the the Arthurian tale of Launcelot du Lake, the babe was given the name Lancelot.
Lancelot's being raised in the colony was not met with open arms. Indeed the council argued that the child be given to a feral family. (Giving him to the Brisby's may have been suggested as an option. but such was not recorded) Rita had already claimed the child as her own and refused to give him up. Ronald came to his mate's aid by "playing hardball" with the council.
Using his gift and flair for speech ,Ronald pointed out the hard work he and his wife had done for the colony, discovering the process to make excellent paper, making and maintaining the books in the library, and even making new ones for private use and even entertaining them all with there plays and shows.
He said to them that if the council said the child must go, they would abide by such, BUT ,he and Rita would leave the colony with him. If given to the Brisby's or anyone else the result would be the same. they would stop making paper for the colony and good luck getting anyone to their level of craftsmanship quickly. Besides there were already signs that this child was not of feral origin, given his clothes and the stone he had . With the help of the Bradbury's and others(perhaps even the Brisby's) the council gave in and agreed to let Ronald and Rita keep the mousechild,Lancelot.

Should also note the "stone" has no magic abilites at all. May not even be real stone. I also did write Lancelot personality etc out as his current age. (He's around same age as Ira) But I figured it was overkill for this posting. In any case, nothing to do with the New 8.

Hope that answers some questions.

NMC Character

I'm planning on getting myself an NMC alt, so that I can better fulfill my duties as RP wiz by keeping tabs on both the NMC and the RC colony. Any recommendations as to what sort of rodent is wanted/needed/would be cool to have in the colony? :) I was thinking either a politician of some sort or a Joe Blow type of civilian mouse.

Oh, and as far as the "New 8" are concerned...where the heck did they come from? :) That's the first I've ever heard of them, too. Then again, I always did find myself wondering just where Eugene came from. :)

~Caboose

Interesting story...

Certainly, Lancelot's tale sounds quite exciting in a sense, and it does sound like something that can be worked in...

There's only one problem. The whole "lost NIMH mouse-child is adopted by the rats" has already been done. Richard pioneered this type of plot in order to get his character to fit in. I'm not saying that this idea can't work out because of that, but I recommend that you reflect on it further; we don't want any creative conflicts in the future.

The second issue I have is with this whole "other mates" idea. As far as I can tell, the NIMH rats are strictly monogamous, and this is an unwritten rule enforced by social pressure. Unless the Peninks are very, /very/ good at hiding their illicit conjugal relations, then they would be stigmatized by the community and consequently lose the respect that allowed them to fight for Lancelot's cause in the first place.

Also, would the Council be so adamant even after having mice amongst themselves, and wouldn't they have suspected that the child was a NIMH mouse? Plus, if they did suspect, then they would have had a clue about the existence of the NMC, and unless Richard comes on here and allows us to retroactively change this perception (that /no one/ had any clue about the existence of the NIMH mouse colony other than those taking care of Rick secretly), then I'm afraid this plot will be fraught with issues.

Of course, now that I've mentioned that...If the Peninks were able to persuade the Council to let them keep Lancelot, then what was preventing Fiona and Simon and Hiro from opening up about Rick? Perhaps they doubted that the Council would look kindly at a second foreign mouse, or perhaps the Penink affair was carefully concealed, though I highly doubt if would be concealed for long given the nature of the situation.

As for the New 8, I think this very old log excerpt I dug up can help inform you:

June 30, 2005 (yeah, /really/ long time ago n.n)

OOC> Eugene doesn't think so... I WISH I had the logs for "The New 8 RP" that was done when the muck restarted.
OOC> Timothy has a couple, though they're not mine... We've kinda made an IC history departure from Gibbs' stories... they were too restrictive to work with in the context of the muck.
OOC> Eugene says, "That was my first TP on the muck when it restarted, and more or less explained where Eugene came from and how he got here... Jeeze, he's been around for awhile. >D"
OOC> Eugene says, "Kinda funny though.. The New 8 pretty much dwindled down to 4 within a couple of years. x.x"
OOC> You say, "So...I assume that the New 8 are connected with the Lost 9? "
OOC> Timothy asks, "Who all used to play the new 8?"
OOC> Eugene says, "There was me, Brendan, Darian, Robin... I remember Kerry and Kelly, but I can't remember the other two."
OOC> Eugene says, "No, they're not."
OOC> Eugene says, "Well, all except for one."
OOC> Joseph remembers Darian coming back..."So, who are the New 8, then? And who's this exception?"
OOC> Eugene says, "7 of them were caught in the streets more or less like the originals were sometime afterwards, more or less in an attempt to recreate the experiment that was done... The exception was Robin, Jonathan's IC sister. Apparently she was the sole survivor of the ventilation shaft incident."
OOC> Joseph nods.
OOC> Eugene says, "Of the ones left behind, rather."
OOC> Timothy nods.
OOC> You ask, "So...Robin got a double dose?"
OOC> Eugene says, "Not quite."
OOC> You say, "Hmm..."
OOC> You ask, "So...what exactly happened with Robin, then?"
OOC> Eugene says, "I don't remember everything, but it pretty much went like this... The 7 that were caught were given the injections like the others and more or less went through the same process... For some reason, Robin had decided to stay behind this whole time, and she discovered the caged mice.. by then she had more or less tapped into her own abilities. She helped the other mice escape and got them out of the lab, and basically led them on a journey to find Thorn Valley."
OOC> Eugene was pretty young still back then, and Brendan was just a little kid, roughly around Cynthia's age.
OOC> Timothy grins, remembering a couple of RPs with Brendan back when he'd recently arrived...
OOC> Eugene originally envisioned Eugene as being a distant relative of the Brisby line separated by a some odd generations, but I eventually scrapped that whole idea when the muck restarted.
OOC> You say, "Interesting..."
OOC> Eugene laughs. Didn't take long for Cynthia and Brendan to bond as best friends. They'd play with each other all the time. >D
OOC> Eugene says, "They ended up reaching the Fitzgibbon farm, and Dragon(who I was spoofing at the time) terrorized them once or twice. I think they ended up hiding out in the original cinderblock for awhile... If I remember right, someone never took up one of the new 8, so that character was being spoofed, and was ultimately killed by Dragon."

As an added note: That part about Robin's "abilities" refers to her latent affinity with the Stone, which is the MUCK equivalent of magic. Due to the possibility of abuse, of course, such "magic" is currently restricted to only her and Mrs. Brisby (the MUCK policy states that specifically). Robin is also apparently one of the Lost Nine...which brings up another set of issues regarding First Gens :P

Something that's also good to know: Robin's player, from what I know, was one of the founding members of NIMHMuck, and I think at one point she was even the head wiz. She was also in charge of Robin's NIMH Fanfiction Archive until she handed the reins over to Simon.

Anyways, I hope you'll take my suggestions into consideration, and that you found the above info on the New 8 helpful.

Cheers! ;)

What?!?

Sorry to stray from the topic (don't worry, I rarely post anything here anyway), but are you talking about the Robin I know? It can't be, I've known her for a few years now and the fact of her identity is strange enough. But her being the head wiz once? Is someone yanking my crank? Also, what's this about her using magic? I thought only Mrs. B. could use the stone.
Anyway, sorry to bother everyone. And if it's any consolation, for the few weeks I've been registered here I think this is my second post so I won't be messing up the subjects much, I hope.

Believe it

Let's take a look at my log from September 23, 2006:

OOC> Jenny says, "Pretty much.. Kriz was the headwiz here, and she loves Jonathan to death... n.n;"

Kriz, of course, being Jonathan's/Robin's player n.n

Also, Robin's magical ability is explicitly mentioned on the MUCK Policies, which I linked in my earlier post:

Magic

While Nicodemus and Mrs. Brisby used magic from the Heartstone in the movie, magic isn't a very common occurrence on the MUCK. Power- playing is relatively easy if you have magical powers, so we're severely limiting magical abilities. Currently, only Elizabeth Brisby and Robin are the characters capable of magic -- and then, only in extreme cases.

If you didn't know that already, then that must mean that you didn't read that page like you were supposed to. Shame ;)

Sorry

Sorry, I noticed that in the rules and didn't know anything about a page. Isn't she little miss special? Oh well, I know her, she's a good friend of mine. I'm sure she knew what she was doing, so I'm not complaining.
Also, I know who Kriz is, and will continue to keep the identity secret. To tell you the truth, I saw Kriz just this morning.
